Tuesdays With Lazerbeak

Posted by Lazerbeak on January 08, 2013

Welcome back to the very first Tuesdays With Lazerbeak of the new year!

I’ve decided to extend the Year of the Sweatshirt and Year of the Endorsement Deal from 2012 well into 2013. No brainer. I would also like to declare 2013 the Year of the Towel Man and Year of the Hungry Guy. Pretty exciting stuff.

Anyways, let’s kick this year off right with a brand new Mixed Blood Majority song (new group featuring Crescent Moon, Joe Horton, and myself). We’re self releasing this MBM album on the 22nd and wanted to share another track with you. This one is called “Free Up” and features Doomtree’s very own Cecil Otter. One of my favorite joints on the album by far. Huge shouts to Chris Riemenschneider and the Star Tribune for premiering it just a little awhile ago over on their site. Check it out below:

We’ve got a pretty sweet pre-order going on for the record right HERE. You can choose from the standard CD edition to get the disc and an autographed 11×17 poster, or go deluxe and grab an awesome t-shirt and bonus disc.

This Sunday is the last day to pre-order and have your album shipped out almost a full week before release date. A huge thanks to everyone that has already placed an order. We really appreciate it. Again, you can grab the album right HERE.

Dessa and her band just took off this morning for a quick tour through the Midwest and out to the East Coast. The show tonight in Chicago has already sold out so I’d recommend copping tickets in advance if you’re trying to hit any of the other shows. Click on any of the ticket links below for more info.

There are a few more great Doomtree related shows happening in town over the next month or so as well.  Check out the highlight reel below:

 - Sims is playing up in Duluth on January 31st with Prof and DJ Fundo (tickets available HERE).

- Cecil Otter is headlining The Best Love Is Free at the Fine Line on February 9th (tickets available HERE).

- I’ll be playing with Mixed Blood Majority at our CD release show January 26th at the Triple Rock (tickets available HERE). Check the flyer below for more details and ticket info.

For the Bonus Jams this week I’ve got an entire album for you. Our good friends The Hood Internet put out their debut all original production full length album FEAT last fall and have just followed it up with the FEAT Remixes album for FREE.99. I got the honor of remixing “Nothing Should Be A Surprise” featuring the homies Isaiah Toothtaker and ShowYouSuck. Click the cover below to check out the whole 11 track record for free via Mishka.

I’ll leave you with some Bonus Penny pics. She just turned seven months recently and rang in her very first Christmas at the same damn time. Here she is in a pretty amazing holiday outfit courtesy of her Great Grandma Dot (photo by Uncle Natey).

Earlier this year I started seeing commercials during football games for customizable Fathead wall posters. I joked about getting one of Penny for her nursery, and lo and behold the wifepiece came through with the best Christmas present of all time!

Amazing. No nursery should be without a Fathead of your own baby.

New crazy blue play station from my mom.  She absolutely adores this thing.

Didn’t do so hot with my Week 1 Playoffs picks. Luckily I didn’t bet any of Penny’s college fund on these games. Very humbling experience.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to post the winners of the Ryan Olson/LaLuz/Mike Mictlan photoshop contest! The original picture from the Blowout is above. Below we have the runner up photoshop from Liam Francis with an incredibly realistic fireball approach.

But nothing tops this insane lightning/force field/Star Wars/kittens treatment from our friend Arlo Guthrie. Seriously I’m still finding little easter eggs all over this picture. The album artwork was a nice touch too. Truly incredible.

OK, I think that’s probably the most perfect place to end this post. I hope you all have a wonderful week. It feels good to be back on my blog grind. See you next Tuesday for sure!

– Beak

P.S. don’t forget about that Mixed Blood Majority pre-order. It’s self released, meaning we gotta recoup this thing or the wifepiece will take away my check card!
