Tuesdays With Lazerbeak

LazerbeakDoomtree, Lazerbeak, News

Oh man, what a weekend! Huge shouts to everyone that came out to First Avenue last Friday night to celebrate the release of Mixed Blood Majority’s new album Insane World.  Couldn’t have dreamed up a better time if I tried. Mammoth thanks to GRRRL PRTY, Bionik, Marijuana Deathsquads, P.O.S, Graham O’Brien, Andrew Broder, Alex Proctor (crushing the sound), Arlo Guthrie (crushing the lights), Surly Brewing, The Current, and the amazing staff at First Ave for being a part of one of the most memorable nights in my long-legged life. Our ultimate FRIENDTOGRAPHER Zoe Prinds-Flash was in the building taking snaps the whole time. Check out some great pics from the show below and even more great shots at her website right HERE.

Such a great time. This means that there’s only one more Doomtree-related show in 2015, and it happens to be a serious doozy. The entire crew will be at International Market Square on New Year’s Eve for the 12th annual Crystal Ball party! Five levels of raging, tons of DJs, tons of bottles popping, tons of people dressing up and dancing, and tons of Doomtree. This is gonna be a great way to cap off a truly groundbreaking year for us. Grab your tickets HERE and come party with the gang.

And now for the first-announced show of 2016. Mixed Blood Majority had such a good time at First Avenue that we decided to come back and do it again. We’re very honored and excited to be a part of The Current’s 11th annual birthday celebration on January 22nd. We’ll be kicking off Night 1 of the MN tradition with Low, John Mark Nelson, Bad Bad Hats, and Bones & Beeker. Such a phenomenal all-local lineup. AMPED. Check out the details for both shows below and grab your tickets right HERE.

Thanks to everyone who has been hitting up the Doomtree Webstore during our crazy December Blowout Sale. You’ve still got two more weeks before these jaw-dropping deals go away for good. Take a look through the store right HERE and fill up your Christmas stockings for CHEAP. UPDATE: Wednesday the 16th is the last day to order domestically and still guarantee shipping by Christmas. International orders can no longer be guaranteed to arrive by Christmas.

That should do it for Doomtree news this week. There has been an outta control amount of great MN music coming out recently, so let’s jump into another jam-packed segment of Local Bonus Jams. Lizzo released her sophomore album Big GRRRL, Small World last week, and has been getting a ton of incredible press (check out her Colbert Show performance HERE in case you’ve been living under a rock). This time around I mostly contributed post-production work to the album and added additional drums here and there, but I did land one full-on production that I’m really proud of (mainly because it’s the closest I’ve yet gotten to that late-80’s Luther Vandross sound). Check out “Ride” below and make sure to cop Big GRRRL, Small World right HERE. Shouts to BJ Burton on the additional production and James Buckley for destroying the bass.

Our good friend Alex Proctor just debuted the first song from his band LOUIS, and it’s a crusher. Check out “Dreams Over” below, and make sure to catch LOUIS’ first show on December 19th at Icehouse (tickets HERE). Really excited for their new album.

I.B.E & Benzilla are back after last year’s excellent This, That, and the Third album, this time with a free EP called Cement Blocks. Check out “It’s Real” below and grab all three bangers right HERE.

GRRRL PRTY just dropped a video for my favorite song on their latest EP. Check out “Can I Live?” below, with some excellent guest work from Velvet Negroni on the hook.

The homie Greg Grease put out a sweet video for “Killer Love” off his latest album Born to Lurk, Forced to Work. I.B.E pops up again with an assist on the hook. Check it all out below.

New music from Chance York and Eric Mayson of the Crunchy Kids! This track goes super hard. Really excited to hear what these two come up with next. Check out “Harden the Paint” below.

That about does it for this week. I’ll leave you with a handful of Bonus Baby Holiday Pics. ‘Tis the season after all. Here’s Penny running some highly scientific studies on the first and only snowfall of the year (so far).

And here’s Lou and Cam hard at work on their conductor skills. The OshKosh’s are definitely a good place to start.

This is a new development they’ve been working on called “Pretending to read a book while not-so-secretly watching Alvin & The Chipmunks.” Sneaky, yet convincing.

Arts and crafts time with the Grandmas. Christmas tree ice cream cones to be exact.

Penny has been all smiles lately with all the ornaments and gifts all over the house.

The neighborhood Santa Claus came to my mom’s place last weekend and brought Penny a doll. She was terrified.

And lastly, here’s P fixing up her baby tree. Luckily, this one has managed to stay in pretty good shape. Our real tree is faring much worse. Turns out Lou has quite the destructive streak in him. He’s smashed seven ornaments in the last three days, and laughs maniacally every time.

OK! That does it for real. I hope you all have a wonderful week gearing up for the big holiday break. I crushed out all of my shopping in two hours on Amazon Prime last week and avoided the malls for the first time ever. Man, that was AWESOME. Now all I want for Christmas is some Old Navy sweatshirts and an endorsement deal with Amazon Prime. We’ve got to continue traditions in 2016. See you next Tuesday!
