Tuesdays With Lazerbeak

Welcome back to another action-packed round of Tuesdays With Lazerbeak! Last week saw a ton of big-time premieres and announcements, so let’s just jump right into things. Sims dropped a brand new one-off single last Friday right out of thin air and it’s a total slapper. Huge shouts to The Current for world premiering “Time Don’t Fear Me Back” online and on the air. Read all about the track HERE and stream it below. Sims on the raps, Beak on the beat.

Last week also saw the release of my new collaborative instrumental EP with local Minneapolis producer Bionik. The Pool Boys EP consists of five collabo tracks that delve into me and Bio’s shared love of dancehall, R&B, hip-hop, EDM, and jazz music. You can stream or download the project below. Perfect windows-down summertime jam music.

In addition to the songs, we also launched the Pool Boys Sound Pack for all those aspiring producers and DJs out in the world. It consists of over 300 original royalty-free samples, one-shots, and loops from the Pool Boys sessions (plus a ton more). Preview the sounds and grab the whole pack over at Bandcamp right HERE.

In other big news, Doomtree Records announced our partnership with Red Bull’s prestigious Sound Select program last week. We’re the newest musical curator in the Midwest region and we’re kicking things off with a huge bang for our very first show. I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am to bring Kamaiyah to Minneapolis for the first time EVER! Our ultimate homies Air Credits and Sophia Eris will also be performing with Ander Other spinning tunes throughout the night. It all goes down on July 13th at Icehouse. Make sure you RSVP right HERE in order to get on the list. SO PUMPED.

Last weekend was the epic Pulling Together tug-of-war event benefiting children with autism and special needs. Team Doomtree took on Team Heiruspecs in a monumental battle across the might Mississippi River, all in the name of a great cause. Here’s me strapping on the life vest and gloves right before the pull.

And a shot of the festivities from the Minneapolis bank of the river.

Despite our most valiant efforts, we weren’t quite able to “pull” off a victory. Respect and shouts to Heiruspecs for taking the win. Couldn’t be more proud of the effort our guys put in. Together with 19 other teams we helped raise over $200,000 for children with special needs. Totally worth the agonizing pain my entire body is still in. Thanks to WCCO for organizing this inaugural event. We’ll be back for the rematch!

That about does it for the Doomtree-related news this week. Here are a ton of sweet Bonus Jams that I’ve been bumping as of late. Gonna start out with the new SZA album. There are some serious heaters on this one. I’m only a few listens in, but this “Weekend” song is absolutely crushing everything in sight. Check it out below.

SZA – “The Weekend”

Phoenix released a brand new album last Friday and I’m definitely digging the Italian disco vibes. Cool new direction for them. Check out “Goodbye Soleil” below.

Loving the new Major Lazer EP as well, especially this awesome “Paritcula” jam.

Major Lazer & DJ Maphorisa – “Particula” ft. Nasty C, Ice Prince, and Jidenna

Shouts to Astronautalis for putting me up on this new track from London’s own Makola. First time hearing him and I’m loving the beat and vocals on “Black Man Statues.”

Now for some Local Bonus Jams. Major respect to Sound Verite Records for releasing the second volume in their ongoing yearly compilation. Extra shouts for including a Pool Boys track from me and Bio in there. Check out the entire comp below. This is a really excellent way to hear some of the latest, most cutting-edge artists out of the Twin Cities.

Getting  super amped about all this new Ness Nite music. I had the pleasure of playing with her over the weekend at the Mixed Blood Majority show and the new material she premiered with Mike Frey was phenomenal. Here’s her latest track “Happy Ness” featuring a new fav of mine, Drelli.

Finding Novyon just dropped his debut That’s My Dawg (excellent title) and it features this undeniable summer smash hit “Tall Hills” with Allan Kingdom. Love this one.

And speaking of Novyon (SEGUE STREAK), he also just popped up on the new single from Cashinova. Cash is the latest signee to Stophouse Group and this new “Vision” track features Novy and J. PLAZA. It’s a knocker. Check it out below.

BAM! That does it for Bonus Jams. Here’s a couple Bonus Baby Pics before I head out. The month of Daddy Daycare marches on. This past weekend I took everyone to get some very long overdue summer haircuts and not one single tear was shed in the process. We’re making some serious progress over here, folks.

And here’s a quick glimpse at the future of Doomtree Records and my live on-stage replacements. Lou and Cam only needed to sit in on one Mixed Blood Majority practice before figuring out every single one of my tricks. Check out this video below for proof. My days are definitely numbered.

Alright, I hope you all have an awesome week. I’m going to be posted up with Poliça at the Eaux Claires festival this weekend so I’m sure I’ll see a bunch of you out there. If not, next Tuesday for sure!
