Hello hello!!! Happy Spring – hope you’re soaking it all in. I personally have never been more emotional about the daylight savings change and the additional sunshine in the evening that we’ve begun to experience these past few weeks in addition to the warmer weather. Man, I didn’t realize how much I needed that. I’m very excited to share the next two singles in my ongoing Lava Bangers II series with you today. These are tracks 5 and 6 from the upcoming full-length and I’m really happy with how they both turned out. That’s the sick artwork courtesy of best human Andy McAlpine.

“In My Cups” was originally a rap beat I had laying around that I assumed would get vocals on it, but over time I ended up just liking the vibe of a short instrumental. Sort of feels like the beat went to a happy hour dive bar situation and got a little lit up on Grape Apes and Hamm’s beer (very on-brand for me). The title for “Son, Even Nolan Ryan Has His Bad Days” comes from a real-life situation I had as a kid pitching in a Little League game. I was always the catcher, but for some reason the coaches decided to try me out at pitcher for a mysterious reason still unknown to my entire team. I proceeded to walk 13 people in a row and then peg my best friend on the other team in the leg (a true accident). 11 runs were scored and they pulled me with the bases still loaded before I could even get to three outs. Devastating. The coach came up to the mound, patted me on the back, and whispered in my ear “Son, even Nolan Ryan has his bad days” as he asked for the ball back. A good reminder for us all haha. Besides that, I cannot tell you how many hours I spent finessing the second half of that song to try and make the ultimate smooth drumless breakdown. Pumped with how it eventually all came together, but golly I was banging my head against the wall for some time. Glad I pushed through it.  Hope you enjoy these tracks and I’ll see you back here next month for another two-fer!
