Tuesdays With Lazerbeak

DoomtreeDoomtree, Lazerbeak, News

Welcome back to Tuesday With Lazerbeak. I’ve got some huge new show announcements for you today, so let’s jump right into it. Last week P.O.S announced the date and lineup for his much-anticipated second annual The F*cking Best Show Ever! Stef will be curating the event again with the good folks at Greenroom, and they’ve got some serious heavy hitters on the bill this year, along with some super promising up-and-comers. Big Freedia, Ho99o9, Marijuana Deathsquads, Psymun, Saba, Denitia and Sene, TIIIIIIIIIIP, and Ander Other will all be a part of the festivities this time around, which will again culminate with a headlining solo set from P.O.S himself. It all goes down on Saturday, June 13th as part of Familia’s 10th Anniversary Weekend (which kicks off June 12th with a Ying Yang Twins concert no less). Check out the flyer below and grab TFBSE tickets and even more details right HERE.

Chances are you might not be totally familiar with all of those acts on the flyer, and believe me, that is 100% totally cool (I wasn’t either). Half of the point of TFBSE is to expose the Twin Cities to brand new and under-the-radar artists, which is why Stef and Greenroom made this sweet Best F*cking Show Ever Soundcloud playlist to get you in the know. Check it all out below and start counting down the days until June 13th. This show is going to rule insanely hard.

That month only gets better too. On Saturday, June 20th our very own Mike Mictlan will be performing two sets at First Avenue for Wrestlepalooza VI (!!!), which will combine pro wrestling, burlesque, and live music for a seriously action-packed night. Dudes, PRO WRESTLING!!! I cannot wait for this. Check out the flyer below for full details and grab your tickets HERE.

In album-related news, Doomtree’s All Hands was just officially released throughout all of Europe and the entire UK in both physical and digital formats! If you live anywhere near those regions you should now be able to purchase the album via iTunes or stream it via Spotify, as well as pick up the CD or LP in select record stores.

All Hands Digital Cover

In conjunction with that news, there’s been some cool international press rolling out with the release as well. UK site The Skinny gave the album a very positive review, which you can read about right HERE, and I recently sat down with French site Slow Show for an in-depth interview on the state of Doomtree. You can read the online interview HERE (most will probably need to hit the “translate” button), and it will also appear in Volume 27 of French magazine New Noise. Oh, and don’t forget about Clash Magazine premiering our sweet new video for “Beastface” a few weeks back. Read their full write-up right HERE, and check out the tyte vizual below.

All of this positive press just adds to the momentum we’ve been building up for the All Hands Europe Tour this summer. There are still a few more festivals that we’re waiting on to announce, but you can find the majority of the tour routing on the flyer below. As always, you can grab tickets and all the sweet deetz right HERE.

Continuing on with this Europe theme (segue!), Dessa will be wrapping up the last two shows of her European headlining tour this week, after just crushing out eight shows in a row throughout Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, and the Czech Republic. She’ll be hitting Paris tomorrow (Wed) and Milan on Saturday before it’s all said and done. Details for those final shows right HERE.

And now, as always, it’s time for my attempt at meticulously recapping a tour that I am not actually on. As I mentioned, Dessa and Aby traversed quite a few countries last week on their quest for world dominance. Here’s some sweet homemade window art that welcomed them in Budapest.

And here’s proof of Dessa’s time spent in the Czech Republic, although I would argue that one could just as easily have taken that picture in Ybor City, Florida and written “Czech Republic” on it. We’ll give her the benefit of the doubt though given all the information at hand.

This is Aby drinking a ginormous pilsner backstage in Pilsen. Truly incredible to me. No funny caption necessary.

Dessa and Merch Man Josh speed walking through Prague on their brief 18 hour stay in the city. Not totally sure “Merch Man Josh” is gonna stick. Let me think on some more nicknames for a bit and get back to you.

Lastly, here’s Aby posted up in front of what I can only imagine to be a very unfortunate (yet comical) lost-in-translation scenario. Awesome.

OK! That about does it for the news this week, but let me leave you with a slew of Video Bonus Jams before calling it a day. I’m gonna start things off with this new Titus Andronicus single off their upcoming full-length The Most Lamentable Tragedy. Gotta be honest, I never really checked for these guys at all on their previous albums, but this new song is just so insanely good. The lyrics and delivery rule, plus it kind of reminds me of Andrew WK meets all the indie rock bands I listened to in high school. Extremely recommended. Bonus things it has going for it: A) It’s called “Dimed Out,” which is just a really solid phrase to begin with. B) It’s one of 29 songs on a 93-minute crazy concept album, and you KNOW that I am going to be into that. Check it out.

Let’s run with the TFBSE theme for the rest of this week’s jams, just to tie it all back up to the top and complete the TWL Circle of Life. Check out videos from Big Freedia, Ho99o9, Marijuana Deathsquads, Psymun, Saba, and Denitia & Sene below. I will still argue that “Ewok Sadness” is the greatest music video OF ALL TIME.

Big Freedia – “Ya’ll Get Back Now”

Ho99o9 – “Bone Collector”

Marijuana Deathsquads – “Ewok Sadness”

Psymun – “Talk To Me” feat. Kerry Roy

Saba – “Secondhand Smoke”

Denitia and Sene – “Divided”

BAM! There you have it. No Bonus Baby Pics this week. The kids are all moving way too fast to even get a shot off these days, plus Penny is currently in my dog house after tricking me into sitting on a peeled banana this morning, then laughing maniacally when I realized my misfortune. Not cool, P. I WILL NOT reward that type of behavior with shine time on a verrrrrry popular and beloved blog. If that doesn’t learn you, I don’t know what will.

I hope you all have a wonderful week. See you back here next Tuesday for sure. Go Bulls!
