Tuesdays With Lazerbeak

Welcome back to another edition of Tuesdays With Lazerbeak! Things have been full throttle here at Doomtree HQ all summer long, and last week was no different as we released the brand new music video to Dessa’s standout Chime single “Fire Drills.” The video was shot in Berlin and directed by Irene Kotnik. Shouts to NPR for the world premiere. You can read what they had to say about it right HERE. Big shout to the New York Times as well, who listed the song and video on their weekly NYT Playlist right HERE. Check out the awesome vizual below and please help us get the word out by spreading it wide across the far reaches of the internets. Much appreciated!

Dessa is back in NYC temporarily catching her breath after the whirlwind four-month Chime World Tour. We’re only two months away from the release of her debut memoir My Own Devices on Dutton Books, and in conjunction with that big event Dessa has announced a big book tour throughout the US. Check out all the dates below and grab your tickets and advance book copy HERE.

Then this November Dessa will be headed across the pond once again for a big week-long UK tour. Check out all those dates below and grab your tickets HERE.

Last week saw the world premiere of the latest single from Sims, Air Credits, and ICETEP. The supergroup premiered “Octadant” on Go 95 ahead of their debut collaborative album Artería Verité which drops on Doomtree Records this August 3rd. Check out the track below and seriously BUMP THAT. Such a banger.

Sims x Air Credits x ICETEP – “Octadant”

Sims hopped on Go 95 with Mr. Peter Parker recently to talk about the Air Credits collaboration and how the whole record came together, as well as play “Octadant” on the air for the first time ever. Watch that in-studio interview right HERE.

Speaking of that Artería Verité album (SEGUE!), shouts to everyone who has already picked up a pre-order. If you’ve been sleeping, there’s still time to grab yourself a Standard or Deluxe pre-order and get all of the crazy bonus goodies that come with them. We’re talking 24-page zines, immediate download of the first two singles, limited-edition shirts and pins and patches, and access to an exclusive Q&A with the whole group. Check out all the sweet deetz below and grab your copy right HERE. Oh, and make sure to keep your eyes peeled this week for tons more Sims x Air Credits x ICETEP news.

Now for some really awesome Cecil Otter news! Cecil has lent his production skills to an excellent new compilation benefiting LGBTQ youth experiencing homelessness. The project is called Power Of Love and it’s chock full of incredible Minnesota musicians. That’s the colorful album cover below.

Cecil teamed up with members of Solid Gold and Aero Flynn to create the title track off the comp, and it is an absolute slammer. Check out “Power of Love” below and please consider pre-ordering a copy of the album or contributing to this great cause right HERE.

This week’s Lazerbeak-curated guest DJ at Surly Brewing’s ongoing  Summer of Sound series is the one and only Lady Midnight! She’ll be posted up from 7-10pm tonight (7/17) playing nothing but summertime jams. As always, this is a totally free and all ages event. Come through!

Alright that does it for this week’s Doomtree-related news, which means it’s time to get into another round of Bonus Jams! This new Drake album has officially won me over after about twenty more listens. Loving the more R&B-influenced second half especially. The standout song for me is “After Dark” with Ty Dolla and Static Major. So gooooood. Rest in peace to Static, what a talent.

Drake – “After Dark” ft. Static Major and Ty Dolla $ign

Ty Dolla $ign has been on a serious roll all year and it appears that he’s got a whole album cooking up with Chicago’s very own Jeremih. These guys are two of the most exciting voices in current R&B to me, and this first single “The Light” has me super amped for what’s to come.

Jeremih & Ty Dolla $ign – “The Light”

One of my absolute favs, Tinashe, is back with a super hot new single. Hoping this means she’ll be back sooner than later with a follow-up to her Joyride album. Check out “Like I Used To” below. Crazy jack of that Gallant sad face drawing on the single cover though!

Tinashe – “Like I Used To”

Aaaaaand speaking of Gallant, he’s heating up and getting ready to drop his second full-length this Fall. If the first two singles are any indication, he’s got another instant classic on his hands. Check out “Doesn’t Matter” below. Can’t wait for this album!

Gallant – “Doesn’t Matter”

I’m very late to the party with Cash Money’s latest signee Jacquees, but better late than never I guess. Really feeling his new 4275 album and the early-2000’s R&B vibes.

Jacquees – “23”

Oh man, it makes me so happy to say that Lloyd is BACK with an absolute smash hit. His 2007 Street Love album is definitely in my top 10 R&B albums of this century. And this “Caramel” song is a serious return to form. LOVE IT. I’ve played it six times this morning already.

Lloyd – “Caramel”

Now for some shameless pop music. I’m really excited for this upcoming Troye Sivan album. His “Dance To This” single with Ariana Grande is absolutely phenomenal, and unfortunately light years better than all three Ariana solo singles that have come out recently.

Calvin Harris continues to surprise me with his production versatility. His Funk Wav Bounces album was a highlight of last year and this recent song with PartyNextDoor is a summertime banger. It’s been on repeat for a few months now. Check out the video for “Nuh Ready Nuh Ready” below.

Calvin Harris and PartyNextDoor – “Nuh Ready Nuh Ready”

Very excited for the new album from English rapper J Hus. He’s been popping up on a ton of guest features as of late and this “Dark Vader” song absolutely rules.

J Hus – “Dark Vader”

J. Balvin can currently do no wrong and this new one with Nicky Jam is a SMASH HIT. I like this even more than “Mi Gente.”

Nicky Jam x J. Balvin – “X”

And lastly here’s the first single from newcomer Channel Tres. Super feeling this house music meets West Coast rap vibe. Plus he’s on the same label as Yaegi, so he’s already off to a great start. This video rules too. Check out “Jet Black” below.

Channel Tres – “Jet Black”

As allows, you can follow my Bonus Jams Spotify Playlist to take all this music with you wherever you’re going. I update it every Tuesday morning with whatever I’ve been bumping that week. You can follow it right HERE.

Ok that does it for this post. I hope you all have an incredible week. Make sure you stay tuned to the site throughout this week as we’ve got a lot more heat in store for you real soon. See you next Tuesday for another TWL roundup!
