Tuesdays With Lazerbeak

Holy moly welcome back to an absolutely life-affirming edition of Tuesdays With Lazerbeak. So much to talk about!!!! I’m outrageously excited to announce a new Tuesdays With Lazerbeak partnership with Minneapolis’ beautifully renovated Parkway Theater – which you may remember as the venue where I held my Luther album release celebration. We had so much fun there that we decided to create a quarterly Tuesdays With Lazerbeak event and the first show pops off next month. Check this out!

These nights will double as a live podcast taping for the actual Tuesdays With Lazerbeak show, as well as a night of intimate music, overall mindfulness, and overflowing positivity. At each event we’ll have a very special guest on to talk about process, inspiration, creativity, behind-the-scenes shenanigans, and anything else under the sun, and the night will also include a special stripped-down set of music from said guest. On top of all that, we’ll be bring out a different mental health “expert” each show to talk more about mindfulness and what we can be doing to better ourselves and the community around us. Now that’s what I call a WIN/WIN. There will be interactive crowd activities, drink specials galore, and general great vibes for you to take home with you. I’m incredibly excited to announce that our first guest will be none other than St. Paul’s own Maria Isa! It all goes down on June 1tth at 6pm (live taping at 7pm sharp). Check out the sweet deetz below and grab your tickets this Friday when they go on sale right HERE. Enormous shouts to our awesome sponsors Copycats Media and Bent Paddle Brewing Company for the help in putting this quarterly event on. Can’t wait!!!

And if you’re still wondering just what the hell the Tuesdays With Lazerbeak podcast actually is, fear not. We’ve archived the first five episodes for you below, starting with last week’s in-depth interview with singer-songwriter Jeremy Messersmith. ENJOY!

Here’s a very special bonus pic from our impromptu photo shoot with Jeremy to put a smile on your face. I really think we nailed it!

Alright, now for another treat. This weekend marks the 24th annual Art-A-Whirl extravaganza in Northeast Minneapolis, and to join in on this celebration of music, art, and culture we’re opening up the Doomtree Office doors again for a FLASH SALE of epic magnitude!!! Come help dig me out of all this merch so I can actually have meetings in this place again. CDs for $5, LPs and t-shirts and limited-edition posters for $10, hoodies for $20, and a build-your-own Doomtree CD Discography kit for $50. Yep, every CD we currently have in stock for only $50. Let’s do this thing! It all goes down 10am-5pm this Saturday in the Thorp Building at 1620 Central Ave NE. Follow the signs and I’ll see  you there!

In tour news, Dessa, Aby Wolf, and Matthew Santos have officially wrapped up their European trek. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported them this time around. Here’s a recap of all the trouble and awesomeness they got into over the past week. That house show looked amazing!

This is not the end of the road though! Dessa has just announced a new run of June shows to follow up her late May festival run of Bottlerock, Boston Calling, and Soundset. She’ll be hitting Las Vegas, TIJUANA(!!!), Phoenix, Santa Fe, and Austin this time around with MONAKR along for the ride once again. Check out all the dates below and grab your tickets HERE.

BAM! That’s it for Doomtree-related news this week so let’s jump right into the Bonus Jams. My all-time favorite, Kacey Musgraves, continues her world domination with this incredible new music video for Golden Hour highlight “Oh What A World.” She can seriously do no wrong in my eyes.

I just spent the most magical 48 hours in New Orleans last week soaking up my favorite city in the entire world, so I have to give some serious shouts to NOLA’s own Tank and the Bangas who just released an incredible sophomore album earlier this month. Check out “Nice Things” below.

Tank and the Bangas – “Nice Things”

Super feeling this new one from Philadelphia’s Armani White. Don’t know anything more than this song so far, but can’t wait to hear more. Super feel-good vibes.

Armani White – “Onederful”

SO PUMPED that Minnesota’s own Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, and SOUNDS OF BLACKNESS have reunited on a new song. “Til I Found You” is an absolute smash and features the legendary Ann Nesby and the late great Big Jim Wright.  Absolutely incredible.

And in case you forgot about Sounds of Blackness, let me remind you of one of the greatest songs ever written in all of time. “You can win, as long as you keep your head to the sky. Be optimistic.” Perfection.

Sounds of Blackness – “Optimistic”

Really feeling this new album from Dreamville Records’ Ari Lennox. “Up Late” is a definite standout. Highly recommend this new Shea Butter Baby album.

Way into this “Teach Me” song from R&B singer Kyle Dion. This is some classic stuff right here. I gotta check out the full album ASAP.

Flying Lotus continues to tease out BANGERS from his upcoming project. This new “More” single features the one and only Anderson .PAAK and it does not disappoint in the slightest.

Open Mike Eagle is on a roll with his new Comedy Central show The New Negroes. Each week he drops a new song, and this latest episode features Lizzo for a track called “Extra Consent.” Shouts to my man Bionik on the beat!

Man, Serengeti is one of my favorite people in the entire world and I just cannot keep up with the insane amount of new music that he delivers month in and month out. Check out “Mother Wants Me Alive” from his new EUD project.

Serengeti – “Mother Wants Me Alive”

Shouts to my good old friend and producer buddy Budo who has a new project with singer Ben Zaidi dropping next month. Check out first single “Shambles” below. It’s awesome.

Just got put onto Australian singer/songwriter Julia Jacklin and I’m loving this Crushing album. Check out the sweet video for “Body” below, one of my fav songs from the record.

And lastly, here’s the song “Value Inn” from Laura Stevenson excellent new album The Big Freeze. You might recognize her voice as the main backup vocals on the last couple of Craig Finn albums and from her previous band Bomb The Music Industry. Loving how chill and zoned out this new record is. Check it!

BOOM! That’s it for Bonus Jams this week. Remember to add the Bonus Jams playlist to your Spotify library right HERE so you can always stay up to date on the latest heat. Updated every Tuesday morning!

OK! I hope you all have an incredible week enjoying these crazy NBA Conference Final match-ups. Still in shock at how good those Mother’s Day Game 7’s were. What a year for the playoffs. I look forward to seeing some of you at the Doomtree Flash Sale on Saturday, and if not, next Tuesday for another round of TWL!
