Tuesdays With Lazerbeak

LazerbeakLazerbeak, News

Welcome back to Tuesdays With Lazerbeak! It’s a HUUUUGE news day today, so let’s jump right into it. Yesterday the homie Shake over at 2DopeBoyz premiered the brand new video for Mike Mictlan and Greg Grease’s track “WZRD Science,” off of Mike’s SNAXXX project. Mike and Greg on the raps, 2% Muck on the beat, and the one-two punch of Isaac Gale and David Jensen on the insane vizualz. Plus plenty of cameos from Stef, Meta, Quinn, Zoe, and Cliff. This is for real one of my favorite Doomtree related videos ever. Check it out and help us spread the word if you have a second. Plus you can also now buy SNAXXX digitally through iTunes (HERE) and physically from the webstore (HERE). DO IT.

The last Mixed Blood Majority show of the summer is coming up this Friday at Icehouse, and to celebrate we decided to drop a brand new Mixed Blood Majority collabo track with one of our favorites: Lizzo!!! Check out “Keep Diggin'” below. Joe Horton, Lizzo, and Crescent Moon on the raps. Beak on the beat.

We recorded the song in a race against time three days ago, and the session couldn’t have gone better. Here’s a quick picture of Alexei, Joe, and Lizzo doing their best impression of a Baby-cameo-in-a-Cash-Money-video right after we finished tracking.

If you want to see more of that (plus hear “Keep Diggin'” live for the first time) and you’re anywhere near the Twin Cities this Friday, make sure to come out to Icehouse and check out the Mixed Blood Majority show. Bomba de Luz are opening, Lizzo and Sophia Eris are hosting, and Icehouse’s resident mixologist has whipped up a brand new Mixed Blood Majority Mixed Drink for the occasion. Just found out the ingredients last night, and I can confidently say that you are gonna want to have at least a few of those. Check out all the details below and click HERE for tickets.

Dessa wraps up the first leg of her Parts of Speech Tour tonight in St. Louis, and before she’s even had a chance to sleep a night in her own bed, she has gone ahead and announced the full East Coast leg of tour (along with a few festival dates). UNSTOPPABLE BAWSE. Check out all the dates for the second leg of the mammoth Parts of Speech Tour below and click HERE for ticket info.

The homie Ricardo Zapata put together another awesome tour recap video, in case you were wondering how Dessa and the band were holding up after an action packed West Coast run. Here’s some highlights from the Pacific Northwest dates, when Sims joined up with everybody. So great. Check it out below:

Oh and speaking of awesome videos (flawless segue streak continued!), MTV debuted this sweet mini documentary on the Minneapolis music scene last week called This Is The Place. It features a ton of footage and interviews from Doomtree and a bunch of other great local artists (Greg Grease, Marijuana Deathsquads, The Chalice, Har Mar Superstar), and it actually succeeds in shedding an accurate spotlight on this city’s arts scene (no Reality Bites faces-spinning-on-pizza moments thankfully). If you’ve got five minutes to spare, definitely click the video below to check out the whole thing.

Alright, I think that covers all the music related stuff for this week, which means it’s finally time to get into the epic photo recap that is TPC! Cabin Retreat 2013!!! Just a little back story for those that may not be familiar: TPC! stand for The Plastic Constellations, the first band I ever played in and my best friends since about 7th grade. I’ve grown up with these guys, and even though we hung up the music side of things back in 2008, we hang out now more than ever (even if said hanging is slightly tamer than before). For the last four or five years we’ve made a point to pack up all our families and head to Matt’s folks’ cabin out in Cross Lake once every summer. It is by far the thing that I most look forward to all year long, and it is generally immediately preceded by an email chain that includes an amazing image such as this:

So yeah, basically it is the greatest. Here’s what it looks like once we get up there (nice shot Scoops).

And here’s what it looks like the next day when we get the pontoon out and fill up the big tube.

TPC! most definitely still knows how to party. We just all wear shorts now when we do.

The kids got in on the action too. Here’s Finn showing off a cool new present from his Uncle Matt AKA Cabin Santa.

And here’s Penny in what appears to be an audition for the Baby Juggalos (that’s actually just a liberal application of sunscreen). We found out the she has super human taste buds and loves sucking on limes. This kid is nutz.

Here’s drawing maniac Gus in one of the last documented photos before the baby mullet got snipped off.

Every summer these very special Cabin Coozies get unpacked and utilized to the fullest. Whoever is churning out these slogans is a serious genius millionaire.

Sometimes you get a little too into the cabin spirit and attempt to rock two cabin themed hats AT THE SAME DAMN TIME. One of my greatest achievements to date. No regrets.

And for the grand finale, the yearly group shot in front of the fireplace. Nelpz, Cam, Beak, Scoops, Waff, G-Man, Roons, Finnce Faughn, Juice, KTJ, and SchatManCometh.

Huge shouts to Liz and MJ too, who had to leave a day early! Love all these guys too much. Here’s one more shot of P to fulfill my Bonus Penny Pic obligations.

I’ll leave you with a couple TPC! Bonus Jams since we’re on such a roll here. LEGENDZ!!!!

And here’s a very special Alice In Chains Bonus Jam, just because we for some reason got on a serious Spotify grunge kick late one night, and decided that “Here they come to snuff the rooster” is possibly the greatest lyric in rock history. IN ROCK HISTORY!

Alright, that for real does it for this insanely long blog post. Thanks for sticking with me. I hope you all have a wonderful week, and hopefully I’ll see a bunch of you out at Icehouse this Friday. If not, next Tuesday for sure!
