Hey! Welcome to back to yet another edition of Tuesdays With Lazerbeak. Spring has officially sprung up in Minnesota and that means it’s festival and block party season. I thought I’d do a quick recap of the current Doomtree-related shows we’ve got on the books this Spring and Summer. We’ve been taking a bit of a break as a full crew so that everyone can focus on solo endeavors for awhile, but we will all be meeting up on July 28th for a full crew show at Subterranean in Chicago. Check out all the details below and grab your tix right HERE before they’re gone.

And don’t forget about the Doomtree VS. Heiruspecs epic tug-of-war on June 10th as part of WCCO’s Pulling Together event to raise money for Fraser and children with autism. Members of Doomtree and friends will be yanking the Heiruspecs crew into the river all in the name of a great cause. A ton of our other business buds are involved too, like Surly Brewery and Glam Doll Donuts just to name a few. Should be a great day on the river. Check out details and donate to Doomtree’s fundraising page right HERE.

Fresh off of her mammoth Orchestra Hall shows, Dessa has just announced that she’ll be performing at Riot Fest in Chicago this September alongside Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, and Jawbreaker. Check out the entire crazy lineup below and grab tix HERE.

She’ll also be kicking off her NYC residency at the Greene Space on May 11th with special guest Jeremy Messersmith. She’ll be joined by Aby Wolf on the 17th, Paper Tiger and Alexei Casselle on the 24th, and Astronautalis on the 31st. Learn more about all four nights right HERE.

P.O.S was just added to the inaugural Upstream Music Fest lineup going down next month in Seattle. He’ll be joined by Flying Lotus, Poliça, Shabazz Palaces, and hundreds more. Check out all the sweet deetz right HERE.

Stef will also be gracing the Soundset stage over Memorial Day weekend for the 10-year anniversary of the larger-than-life rap festival. Super crazy lineup this year too. Check out the full spread below and grab your tickets HERE.

Sims is back from his European run and headed up to Montreal on May 19th for the annual Pouzza Fest alongside Lagwagon and Mustard Plug. Check out the full lineup and ticket info right HERE.

And lastly, I’ll be performing an extremely rare set with Mixed Blood Majority on May 19th for Art-A-Whirl in Northeast Minneapolis. It all goes down at the 331 Club stage and we’ll also be joined by good friends Roma di Luna and The Hood Internet. SO PUMPED. Hope to see a ton of you down there.

Quick little random sidenote: I wanted to send some shouts out to City Pages for picking Doomtree as Best Record Label in this year’s Best Of The Twin Cities poll. P.O.S was picked Best Rapper and Dessa nabbed Best Cover Song for her work on the Hamilton Mixtape. That’s what I like to call a trifecta. Check out the full list of winners right HERE and read the blurb below.

Now for some big time Bonus Jams. Poliça followed up the release of their new double single with a music video for “Lipstick Stains.” The track features guest production by Boys Noize and the video features choreography and movement from Nkechi Njaka and Poliça’s Channy Leaneagh.Shouts to director Adam Dunn. Love this song.

I’m super excited about this debut EP from The Blaze that just came out. I still don’t know a ton about the electronic duo, but their music videos are next level and all of the music I’ve heard so far totally rules. Love the pitched down vocals and house vibes. Check out “Virile” below.

The Blaze – “Virile”

Shouts to Paper Tiger for putting me up on Montreal producer Jacques Greene. I’m super into his new album and this “True” joint featuring vocals from How To Dress Well is a total monster.

Swick just dropped a new single featuring some standout vocals from Spank Rock and the combo of the two on the same track is totally insane. Highly recommended.

WizKid released a new track with Drake not too long ago and it’s the best. I’m still on a crazy dancehall kick these days, so this is perfect.

WizKid – “Come Closer” ft. Drake

Way into this new single by the Afghan Whigs, who I must admit I never really listened to much back in my 120 Minutes days. I checked this new song out because Har Mar Superstar has an awesome guest performance in the music video and I got totally hooked. Gonna definitely need to check out this full album.

Afghan Whigs – “Demon In Profile”

Now for a few Local Bonus Jams. Our good friends and comrades Big Quarters just reissued their breakthrough debut album on a special 10th-anniversary edition double LP. The whole Doomtree crew came up alongside Brandon Allday and Medium Zach in the mid-2000s and this album was in very heavy rotation in my ’93 Camry. It’s been awesome to revisit that time period and these excellent songs this past week. Check out the stream below and grab yourself a copy right HERE.

Big Quarters – Cost of Living (10th Anniversary Edition)

And just cuz I’m feeling nostalgic, here’s Big Quarters’ decade old “Lou Diamond” video for a real trip down memory lane. This song still goes super hard all these years later.

I’m really excited about this new Parables of Neptune project between vocalist Lady Midnight and producer Afrokeys. The stuff I’ve heard so far is absolutely crushing and this “Smoke-A-Lot” single is no exception. Can’t wait for the EP to drop.

Devon Reason from The Rotation crew just released a new song and it’s one of the best things I’ve heard him do so far. Looking forward to the next project. Check out “Long Gone” below.

Devon Reason – “Long Gone”

And lastly, saxophonist Nelson Devereaux is gearing up to release a new solo album. This “My Bones” single is super cool and features a ton of great arrangements. Definitely want to hear more from this record.

BINGO BANGO. That’s a wrap for Bonus Jams. I’ll leave you with a few Bonus Baby Pics before heading out. We took the entire Party of Five Mader Fam on an epic Wisconsin road trip to celebrate the kiddos’ Great Grandma GiGi’s 90th birthday, and we all made it back in one piece to tell the tale. A true miracle. On Friday we crashed at Wisconsin Dells and the kids tore up the water park. Here’s Penny striking a legendary DIVA POSE in between trips down the slide.

And here’s Crab Man Cam and his cousin Isaiah holding the wall by the punch bowl during the big birthday bash in Oconomowoc the following day. My new thing is going to be pointing at cups in pictures from here on out. Game changer.

All in all I gotta say everyone did pretty good. No casualties or trips to the hospital. Made me really think about how far we’ve come as a family unit in the last three years. I’m getting really excited for summer road trips and cabin hangs now that the kids are at this age and can actually enjoy it. Here’s a quick glimpse into the rest of our weekend trip. #CrystalDaddy definitely leveled up too. Shouts to Crystal Caves!

Alright, that does it for this post. I hope you all have a wonderful week and I’ll see you back here next Tuesday for some big-time news! Stay tuned.
