Tuesdays With Lazerbeak

Hey! Welcome back to another action-packed edition of Tuesdays With Lazerbeak. I’m extremely pumped to tell you about some new music I’ve been working on in the new year with my good friend and fellow producer Bionik (if you’re unfamiliar, he’s a total crusher who’s worked with everyone from GRRRL PRTY and Lizzo to Aceyalone to Ice-T).  We’ve been linking up every couple weeks to learn each other’s process and make a ton of beats. The end result is this collaborative instrumental EP we’re calling Pool Boys. The full project won’t be released until June 6th, but you can check out the lead single “High Dive” below right now. Really excited about this one. Absolute heater.

It’s been awhile since I attempted to make straight up instrumental music for the public to hear, and going back and forth with Bionik trading stems and arranging all the super short sections has been a total blast. Plus we got to touch on a whole slew of different musical influences, from dancehall and hip-hop to EDM and jazz. In addition to the five-song EP, we’re also releasing our first custom sound pack with all the different samples we used on the record and a whole bunch more. The Pool Boys Sound Pack comes with over 300 original samples, one shots, and loops, and will be released on June 6th alongside the EP. Here’s the album cover below. AMPED!

Lots more info on all of this stuff shortly. In the meantime, Bionik and I will be performing our first-ever live set together over Art-A-Whirl Weekend this Saturday in NE Minneapolis at the Slam Academy 5 Year Anniversary Block Party. Check out all the details right HERE. We’ll be debuting a bunch of music from the EP and should hit stage around 6:45pm. Hope to see some of you out there.

If you’re looking for a double dose of Art-A-Whirl mayhem, I’ll also be out in NE Minneapolis this Friday performing a rare set with Mixed Blood Majority. We’ll be headlining the the 331 Club stage and I couldn’t be more excited to be on the same bill as Roma di Luna AND The Hood Internet. Gonna be a total blast. Details below.

For those of you living above the US border, you can check out Sims performing in Montreal at Pouzza Fest this Friday the 19th with a ton of other awesome bands. Details right HERE.

Speaking of sweet shows (SEGUE), the good folks at PBS and TPT just released a MN Original mini-doc on Dessa’s recent set of legendary shows with the Minnesota Orchestra. Go behind the scenes in the weeks before the performance to see how it all came together and then watch Dessa and crew completely crush it on stage. Check out the full nine-minute feature below.

And if you’re anywhere near the Madison area, make sure to go check out Dessa on September 15th at the Live On King Street Festival alongside Strands of Oak. More details and info right HERE.

P.O.S recently got a chance to create an incredible kids song about the process of making slime. God it felt good to type that out. Check out the excellent Brains On! podcast below to learn all about the properties and intricacies of slime. Stef pops in around the 8:30 mark to educate children and parent alike on his favorite slime recipe. “In no time…..You’ve got slime!!!” – Song of the year contender, without a doubt. You’re gonna want to hear this.

I’ve been seriously slacking on the Bonus Jams section the last few weeks because of how crazy everything has been, but don’t fear, I’ve been collecting a bunch of recent fav jams that I’ll be ready to unload on you next week, promise. In the meantime, here’s a quick little Bonus Baby Pic feature for good measure. Last weekend we got to attend Penny’s first dance recital (man I can’t believe she’s already at that age). Here’s P after her class destroyed a dance interpretation of the yellow bumblebees from Dr. Suess’ My Many Colored Days. What a pro, even got the pose down. Gonna be ready for the big leagues in no time.

Here’s Penny, Lou, and Cam the next morning at Mall Of America’s Underwater World checking out the sweet jellyfish exhibit. Little known trivia fact, this is the same exhibit where the Lazerbeak “Dream Team” video was shot. Huge shouts to Aunt Amanda for the year-round pass to this crazy place. And props to Crab Man Cam who was super freaked out the entire time but didn’t let it stop him from making his way through the whole thing. Perseverance personified. He was handsomely rewarded with root beer floats.

Lastly, I want to send an absolutely earth-shattering shout out to The Wifepiece (AKA Killa Cam AKA Brittany Mader) for being the best mom ever and keeping our entire crazy Party of Five household wrangled, happy, and alive on a daily basis. You are the greatest and we love you tons. Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms worldwide!

Alright, I hope you all have a wonderful week. Please bump this new “High Dive” track from me and Bionik at peak volumes and spread the word around if you get a second. If I don’t see you this weekend I’ll definitely see you right back here next Tuesday for another round of TWL.
